Start something at the right moment and it tends to go smoothly. Start it at a genuinely poor one and small obstacles seem to multiply. That's the idea behind Muhurat: an astrologically chosen window, calculated from the day's Panchanga, considered favorable for beginning something that matters.
Not every occasion needs the same depth of checking. A vehicle purchase mostly needs Rahu Kaal and an obviously weak tithi avoided. A wedding needs both charts read properly. What follows covers the major occasions people ask us about, and what actually gets checked for each.

The Moon’s lunar mansion that day. Some are considered steady and auspicious, others unsettled.

A recurring daily window ruled by Rahu. Nothing important is traditionally started within it, regardless of the date.

What is a Muhurat?+
It’s an astrologically chosen window of time, a specific date and hour, considered favorable for starting something important: a marriage, moving house, opening a business, buying a vehicle. It’s calculated from the Panchanga (Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana) and, for the bigger ceremonies, the individuals’ own birth charts.
Is a good calendar date enough, or does it need to be checked individually?+
Depends what it’s for. A vehicle purchase mostly just needs Rahu Kaal and an obviously poor tithi avoided, a printed calendar’s list is usually fine. Vivah Muhurat is different: it has to be checked against both people’s actual charts, since a date that suits one couple can be genuinely weak for another.
What if the ceremony has to happen on a fixed date that isn’t auspicious?+
This comes up more than people expect: a venue booking, a family flying in, a hospital date. An astrologer can usually find the best hour within a fixed day, or a small remedial step to take before the ceremony, rather than there being no option at all.
Does Muhurat use the Nepali or the English calendar?+
The underlying calculation is Panchanga-based (Tithi, Nakshatra), which runs on the lunar calendar. It’s read off the Bikram Sambat / Nepali Patro, then cross-checked against the Gregorian date for everyday scheduling.
